All young riders are on Roanoke Star Cycling’s rec league. We have approximately 12 weekly practices each spring & fall with a break for summer. The young athletes are divided into groups (or squads) by age, gender & then by ability. Each squad has 5-15 kids with 2-5 supporting coaches. Weekly practices are intended to focus on fun, developing skills & endurance, plus instill a sense of teamwork. While racing is not required, and not the main focus, young athletes are encouraged to participate in local events.
The “Rising Stars” team is a program of Roanoke Star Cycling, the Boys and Girls Club and the Youth Headquarters at Goodwill to engage more kids in the sport of mountain biking.
Roanoke Star Cycling has a spring and fall XC (cross country) race program. This program is designed to enhance skills and physical fitness. Our young athletes are encouraged to participate in VAHS (4-race series for elementary, middle and high school in the spring) and NICA (4-race series for middle and high school in the fall).
RVG or Roanoke Valley Gravity is the Racing and development team focused on gravity racing for Roanoke Star Cycling. Our main focus is the Downhill Southeast race series. We also support a number of local downhill and enduro events across the southeast.
