Looking for a healthy, confidence-building activity your child will love? Our youth mountain biking team offers kids the chance to learn valuable biking skills, challenge themselves in a supportive environment, and enjoy the many benefits of outdoor recreation. Team members build confidence, resilience, and friendships as they explore local trails and stay active—all while having fun outdoors and off screens.
No experience needed—just a willingness to ride and a sense of adventure! RSC serves boys and girls from ages 7 to 18, and grades 1st-12th.

The fall season begins the week of August 17, 2026 and runs through October 29, 2026.
Our Recreational Team meets weekly on either Wednesday or Thursday nights from 5:30-7:30 pm during the season (you can select your preference when you complete your registration form, and we'll do our best to accommodate). Registered riders will receive an email by August 13 letting them know which coach and night they have been assigned based on age and rider ability.
The Bridge Team/Elementary XC Team meets on Monday nights from 5:30-7:30 pm. There is an option to add on a second night of practice (Thursday from 5:30-7:30 pm) when you register. Coaches for Fall 2026 are: Troy Lenderking, Jon Guy Owens, and Leslie King.
The Middle School and High school XC Teams meet on Monday and Thursday nights from 5:30-7:30 pm. XC Coaches for Fall 2026 are: Justin Hendricks, Brittany Hendricks, Skip Huffman, Frank Deal, Matt Childers, Chris Clark, and Gabe Price.

How does registration work?
All riders who register with Roanoke Star Cycling begin on our Recreational Team, which focuses on fun, foundational mountain bike skills, confidence on the bike, and a love for riding in a supportive team environment. The registration fee for the Rec Team is $150/season.
For riders who want to do more, several optional add-ons are available:
Bridge Team (Add-On): Designed for elementary age riders (1st-5th grade*) ready to take the next step, the Bridge Team includes an additional weekly practice focused on skill development, endurance, and progression toward our Race Team. The add-on registration fee of the Bridge Team (1-night) is $35, for a total of $185/season. If you'd like to add on a second night of Bridge Team practice, it would be $70, for a total of $220/season.
Cross Country (XC) Race Team (5th*-12th Grade Add-On): For middle and high school athletes who want to compete, this add-on prepares riders for participation in NICA races in the fall and the Virginia High School Cycling League (VAHS) race series in the spring. The add-on registration fee for the Middle School and High School XC Team is $110, for a total of $260/season.
*5th grade has the option to practice with either bridge or XC.
Families can choose the level of involvement that best fits their rider’s goals, experience, and schedule—whether that’s riding purely for fun or building toward competitive racing.

At Roanoke Star Cycling, we believe every kid deserves the opportunity to ride, grow, and belong—regardless of financial circumstances. That’s why we offer scholarships to ensure cost is never a barrier to participating in our youth mountain biking program. Through mountain biking, kids gain confidence, build physical and mental strength, learn teamwork, and develop a lifelong love of the outdoors. Our scholarship program helps make these benefits accessible to all families in our community.
If you are a returning RSC rider, please fill out the scholarship application by Monday, July 27, 2026. We'll let you know if you receive a scholarship by July 29, and will assist you with registration for the fall 2026 season.
If you are a new rider to RSC, please fill out the scholarship application by Friday, August 7, 2026. We'll let you know if you receive a scholarshp by August 11, and will assist you in registering.
